We all have guilty pleasures, whether it is chocolate, eating a whole box of girl scout cookies or watching reality TV. There is something about reality TV that just grabs you. Perhaps reality TV is appealing because sometimes we humans just want to shut our brains down and take a breather. Let’s be honest, a lot of reality shows don’t require actual brain use. Why am I bringing reality tv up? Because of wine of course.
My guilty pleasure is watching The Real Housewives of New York. The New York show has been around for a while and viewers have been able to watch the ladies, some old and some new move on with their lives and, of course, the drama. Bethany Frankel, who is probably the sassiest and most likable lady on the show has created a brand, which viewers have been able to watch grow into this massively popular brand. Skinnygirl. You may have heard of it whether you watch the show or not.
Last week I was at the Safeway taking advantage of the buy one bottle of wine get the other for 10¢ when I stumbled across the Skinnygirl Chardonnay at a reduced price. Originally $16 reduced to $8. Sold. What can I say? I like a good deal!
Apparently, this Skinnygirl Chardonnay is 100 calories…..per 4oz serving. First of all, we don’t measure our wine pours, so this 4oz 100 calorie thing doesn’t really work for us. The wine itself….not bad. It isn’t complicated and it’s an easy sipper. Slight citrus on the nose, fruit and vanilla on the finish. A good Chard for non-chard lovers and a great outside summer sipping wine.
If this wine had not been reduced price, I most likely wouldn’t have purchased it. Frankly, I didn’t even notice this wine in our Safeway until that yellow reduced sign was up. Poor placement by the wine reps. When you see a wine at a reduced or sale price, you’ve got nothing to lose. Grab a bottle and cozy up to watch some RHONY. It’s OK, I won’t tell!
